How to look at feel amazing at your pregnancy photoshoot.

As a Perth maternity photographer, I often have clients asking about how to look their best for their pregnancy photoshoot with me. After all, this is a special time in your life and your photos should reflect that. Here are my top tips for looking your best for your pregnancy photoshoot.

1. Choose the right clothing

When selecting your outfit for your pregnancy photoshoot, keep in mind that you want to look comfortable and beautiful. Try to avoid clothing that is too tight or constricting, as this can make you look uncomfortable and doesn't allow you to move very well. Opt for loose, flowing fabrics such as cotton or linen that will help to flatter your shape. I LOVE dresses that show movement. You can also choose to wear a dress or top with an empire waist, as this will help to accentuate your growing belly. I have a selection of flowy, flattering maternity dresses to fit most sizes for you to choose from. Just let me know ahead of time and make an appointment to come and try some on. If you opt to buy your own dress, I have some suggestions for outfits that work from a variety of online vendors.

2. Wear makeup

Wearing makeup can help to enhance your features and give you a more polished look in your photos. Try to stick to softer, more natural tones and avoid anything too heavy or dramatic. Try to apply your make up a little heavier than usual though, and use waterproof mascara and setting spray to make sure your look lasts for the duration of the shoot. If you wear false eyelashes, make sure that they're well stuck on. Your hands will help tell your pregnancy story too, so I'd advise you to have a manicure which will also help you feel relaxed and at your best. A great hairstyle can also help you look amazing in your photos. If you’re not sure what to do with your hair, a professional can help you create the perfect style for your photos.

3. Accessorise

Accessories can add a nice touch to your pregnancy photos. Consider wearing a necklace or some other type of jewellery to add a bit of sparkle. You can also choose to wear a headpiece or flower crown for a more whimsical look. I'm a HUGE fan of hats to help elevate your maternity photos above a simple portrait. I do also have a selection of felt hats to try on, and can give you tips for wearing them. BONUS...they give you something else to do with your hands.

4. Make sure you’re comfortable

It’s important to feel comfortable throughout your photoshoot. So make sure you’re wearing clothing that you feel good in and that you can move around in easily. And don’t forget to bring along your favourite pillow or blanket for those cosy shots if you have one! I always bring a blanket in neutral tones if you don't. One of the most important things when taking photos is to feel comfortable. Choose a spot that you feel relaxed in, and make sure to take deep breaths and relax your body. This will help you look more natural in your photos.  I'll also help with posing to flatter your shape.

5. Relax and have fun

Above all else, remember to relax and enjoy the experience! Pregnancy photoshoots are a great way to capture this special time in your life and celebrate the amazing journey you’re on. Bring your partner and kids along to the shoot, and let your inner beauty shine through. A great photographer will help you capture the joy and excitement of your special pregnancy moment.

Book your maternity photoshoot while your feel at your best

By following these tips, you’ll be sure to look your best for your pregnancy photoshoot. And don’t forget to book your maternity photographer to capture this special time in your life well in advance! That way you have the best chance of capturing your pregnancy while you're feeling good and before you give birth. I usually recommend booking for when you're around 32-34 weeks pregnant. I have great locations around Perth to shoot in, especially in the Hills and my closet is open for you to try on some dresses.
